Stafford By-Election Shows Major Parties Can’t Ignore Cannabis Reform Foreve

Congratulations to Legalise Cannabis Queensland Party Candidate, Jacqueline (Jacki) Verne, officially fifth in a nine horse race in the Stafford By-election! With only four weeks to prepare, she ran an outstanding campaign, with help from many volunteers, especially former Party President Melody, and long-standing LCQ Party legend, Clive, who always found the best seat to shake his corflutes from!

Jacki noted that the other candidates seemed to really represent their respective Parties, with Labor being the most agreeable of the majors. The LNP (who thought they’d win for sure) and their candidate, ignored the existence of the LCQ, not even acknowledging Jacki at the booths and the current Premier did the same thing (ignorance is their shared go-to, it would seem)!

Following the tradition LCQ began in 2020, the Party’s initial preferences always go to smaller, pro-Cannabis Parties, of which the right wing are not a part, as they are against legalisation. However, it is pleasing to report that Labor might finally be coming to the party on cannabis legalisation, as it is already part of their Party platform and they have intimated that in the future of politics and policies in Queensland, this is something that could be advanced.

On a final note, the Management Committee and all the volunteers are very thankful to have had such an outstanding candidate in the field, keeping Cannabis Law Reform firmly on the agenda in the political arena in Queensland and doing a phenomenal job of raising the profile of the Party!
