The battle to change unjust roadside drug testing laws saw a significant win with the announcement of $4.9 million in the Victorian Budget to fund a trial.
Speaking in a recent Cannabiz podcast, David Ettershank MP said he expected the trial and evaluation to take six to eight weeks.
“We’re reasonably confident that this will come to a head by the end of the calendar year in terms of the research … and findings,” he said.
He expected the trial – which will take place on a closed circuit – would produce results similar to a trial already conducted on public roads in the Netherlands.
It was still an open question on what decision the Government would make once the results were in.
“Will the arguments keep going? Quite possibly, but in terms of the research itself, I would anticipate that this would be over by September. It will then be a question of collating the findings,” he said.
“But this will come to a head by the end of the year and I would hope we are in serious negotiations, if we are still talking with the Government.”
