Jessica - South Australia

Jessica Nies has been a long time advocate for cannabis after battling an ongoing chronic pain and fatigue condition, fibromyalgia, for many years.
This condition left Jessica medically terminated from her career in 2018, just before medicinal cannabis was first available in Australia and at the time, she was left on a toxic mix of pharmaceutical drugs that almost took her life.

In 2019 she finally decided to take back her life and her own health by switching from the prescribed medications from her doctor to cannabis, learning about the benefits of the whole plant along the way.

In 2020 she attended a cannabis expo in Adelaide to further her personal research and stumbled across the Legalise Cannabis South Australia Party and signed up right there on the spot!
A little over 4 weeks later, they held their AGM and Jessica not only put her hand up to help, she took on the position of President, with a huge task of gathering over 200 declared members to get the state party registered in time to contest the 2022 SA state election.

She not only achieved this goal but also campaigned for the LCSA’s two candidates in the upper house that year, whilst 9 months pregnant with her first son, Zachary.

After the election Jessica took some time off to focus on being a new mum and wife to her partner Pete, before finding herself wanting to advocate for cannabis once again.

She joined the Legalise Cannabis Party’s Federal Campaign in 2025 and stood for the state of South Australia as the lead candidate in the Senate. With a small budget and only a handful of volunteers, she surprised everyone with the result she received, being the second to last candidate excluded and only just missing out on a federal seat in Canberra.

That lit a fire inside of her and Jessica once again put her hand up for the top job at the next LCSA AGM, taking back her role as President and leader of the party.

She will once again represent the party as the lead candidate for the Legislative Council of South Australia in the upcoming state election, whilst still being a dedicated mother and wife to her family.
