Continuing to Stand Up for Medicinal Cannabis Patients
The slog to fix RDT continues …. Jeremy Buckingham has been working closely with the independent member for Sydney MP Alex Greenwich on a joint Bill to finally fix one of the most unjust policies affecting tens of thousands of people across our state - the blanket driving ban on medicinal cannabis patients.
Right now, a patient can follow their doctor’s advice, use a legally prescribed medicine, show no impairment whatsoever, and still lose their licence days or even weeks later. It is a system that criminalises responsibility, not risk—and it has gone on far too long.
The joint-Bill is yet another attempt from Jeremy and the LCP to reach a common sense solution to this unjust situation. It aims to legislate the basic principle that the law should test for impairment, not the mere presence of a legal medicine.
For far too long , patients have been forced to choose between their health and their mobility.
This Bill is the product of persistent advocacy, solid evidence, and a community that refuses to accept outdated laws built on stigma and fear. Thanks to everyone who has shared their story, turned up to our forums, written submissions, and kept this issue alive. Your voices have driven this reform every step of the way.
